Practice Statement

Model-making, like any craft, is much like composing a piece of music and takes time and dedication to perfect. Skilled at getting it just right, WilkinsonEyre’ s in-house model shop combines creativity and precision, enabling emerging designs to be critically assessed and developed in 3D. Produced to facilitate wider consultation, our team of 3 full-time modelmakers and 2 designers support projects with a fully equipped workshop.

Integral to our design process, models are photographed and archived in our reference library, preserving the legacy of our work, and providing a valuable resource. Conveying design intent and demonstrating our understanding of the brief, models communicate the core narrative of our work by producing simple, well-proportioned objects using state-of-the-art rapid prototyping technology, complemented by traditional equipment and techniques.

Our 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines ensure precision, while traditional tools enhance craftsmanship. We stock a range of materials, including paper, leather, metal, plastic, and wood, to best express design intentions while considering concept, scale, materials, time, and cost to ensure confident results.
